About me

My name is Steve Keegan, and I have worked as a photojournalist throughout the West Coast of the United States for the past 21 years.

My work has appeared in numerous major media including: Time, Newsweek, USA Today, the Los Angeles and New York Times, Dateline NBC, E! True Hollywood Stories and has been featured in books as well.

I have been honored with several awards for my work both in the collegiate and professional ranks by the the Associated Press, National Press Photographers Association, California Press Photographers Association, Bay Area Press Photographers Association and San Jose State University. I am also one of the top ranked wedding photographers on TheKnot.com based on real client feedback.

After working as a staff photographer for the Los Angeles Times for several years, I moved to California’s wine country. There, I worked for the Napa Valley Register, where I served as the photo editor, while continuing to shoot for the newspaper. Since then, I have worked as a freelancer while owning and running a documentary wedding photography business that has shot over 300 weddings.

I received my training through the photojournalism sequence at San Jose State University under the direction of Jim McNay, former president of the National Press Photographers Association.

While at SJSU, I completed internships at the Kenai Peninsula Clarion in Alaska, the Tri-City Herald in Kennewick, Washington and the Reno Gazette-Journal.

In 2003, I became a Dad for the first time when my daughter Bridget was born, and it made me rethink my career path. I gave up working for newspapers so I could raise my kids during the week while shooting weddings on the weekends. In 2006, I became a Dad for the second time with the birth of my son Daniel. Today, I am a single Dad raising both my kids in Reno, Nevada, while traveling all over shooting weddings and freelance photojournalism.

Despite where I live, I still shoot weddings all over the United States, and I am often able to shoot them for less than what even comparable local wedding photographers charge. Best of all, the quoted price on my Web site includes all travel expenses for any weddings shot in California or Nevada!

Over the past few years, I've shot weddings in Alaska, St. Louis, San Francisco, Napa, Los Angeles, San Diego, Beverly Hills, the high country of the Sierra Nevada range as well as countless events in the Las Vegas and Lake Tahoe areas. I have my passport in order, and can travel abroad as well. The travel fees charged for weddings shot outside of California or Nevada are essentially to cover the cost of travel.
